Having one kid makes you a parent; having two makes you a referee. Time-Out becomes your most used phrase and every time you try to be neutral (cos that’s what referees do, right? ), you hear back squeals that you are being partial, you are always favoring one over the other…blah blah blah 🙂 and you are so exasperated that you wonder did I really fight so much with my sibling when I was their age? Sound familiar?
But then there are some moments, some very precious-few-and-far-between moments where you don’t feel like one, where you feel more like a parent than a referee and where you can sit back, relax, maybe GULP a mimosa or two (I say GULP cos that’s how much time you will have before ur refereeing duties kick in 🙂 ), savor, cherish and enjoy it!
Here’s to refereeing and to those precious-few-and-far-between moments!
When my kids become wild and unruly, I use a nice, safe playpen. When they’re finished, I climb out. ~ Erma Bombeck
