I am sure all of us have heard that it takes lesser muscles to smile or laugh than it takes to frown…..exactly how many, no one knows for sure. There are multiple versions floating around (Snopes.com, Wiki Answers) and there are some more versions that claim that it takes more muscles to smile than it takes to frown (Muscles of Facial Expression, Straight Dope). Whatever the case may be, smiling or laughing definitely makes you feel lighter and can bring an instant change to your mood and to people/surroundings around you. While smiling indicates pleasure, favor, amusement, and is used sometimes to even express contempt or scorn ( Smile), laughing is a louder way of expressing mirth (Laugh).
So is it just ha-ha-ha, hoo-hoo-hoo, ha-ha-hoo-hoo or hoo-hoo-ha-ha or whoo-whoo, hee-hee-hee, hee-hee-hoo-hoo or are there more ways to laugh? I looked around Google and found that there at least, if not more, 20 Ways to laugh. This does not take idioms into account……add that all together, we have over 30 ways to reduce our tresses 🙂 oops, i meant stress 🙂 🙂 to relax, to connect with ourselves and develop a positive outlook.
