The Tamil community in Elan celebrated Pongal on Feb 9, 2013. The kids enacted a tamil dance-drama of the Kanda Puraanam, the story of the ஆறுபடை வீடு (Aarupadiveedu) – the six abodes of Lord Murugan/Karthikeyan, son of Lord Shiva and Parvathi and brother of Lord Ganesha.
The daunting task at hand was not to make these kids act (they are masters 🙂 )but to make them all speak in Tamil. One might think, these kids are all from tamil speaking families how difficult could it be….well, Elan is a melting pot of NRIs and people from all parts of India so the common language is English (and sometimes Hindi) for the kids.
Vidyuth played Lord Shiva and Vishruth played Bala Murgan and did a war dance.
As always, the kids bowled us over with their enthusiasm, their dialogue delivery and their acting, not to mention their wonderful costumes. Here is the play for your viewing pleasure 🙂
When you take dancing lessons, you learn steps and you learn steps and
you learn steps. It can go on for a long time. And then one day, you
just learn to dance, and it is so different.
